How to Adjust an Epson Stylus 1400 Printer to Photoshop Settings

Open Adobe Photoshop, then select 'Edit,' followed by 'Color Settings.' The Color Settings dialogue box should appear. A prompt to choose how to manage color in the image will also appear. Select 'Always optimize for printing.' Click 'OK.'
Open the photo. Select 'File,' then select 'Page Setup.' Select the size of your paper and then select 'Landscape' or 'Portrait' orientation. Click 'OK' to save the options, then select 'Print.' This will open a new print dialogue box where additional options can be customized for your printer.
Select 'Epson Stylus Photo 1400' from the printer list, if it isn't shown. Select 'Photoshop Manages Color' for 'Color Handling.' Color handling is what allows Photoshop to control the color output instead of the printer. Select the profile that corresponds to the paper loaded from the 'Printer Profile' setting.
Select 'Relative Colorimetric as the 'Rendering Intent' for the image. According to Adobe, Rendering Intent determines how color management handles the conversion of color from one color space to another. Relative Colormetric is the industry standard by Adobe, and is standard for printing in North America and Europe. It compares the highest highlights of a source color space to the destination color space, shifting all the colors accordingly. One exception is if your image contains highly saturated colors. Select 'Perceptual' as the Rendering Intent is ideal for reducing the saturation, ensuring colors will be better represented when printed.
On Windows, select 'Preferences' or 'Properties,' and then click 'Advanced.' Select the photo paper loaded. Select 'High Quality' as your quality option. Select 'IMC' as the color management setting. Choose 'Off (No Color Adjustment).' This will ensure the printer and Photoshop are not experiencing cross management, which is when both the printer and Photoshop are outputting color simultaneously, causing inaccurate results. On Mac, press 'Print'; a print dialogue box will appear. Press the downward arrow, located next to the selected printer box, for the 'Advanced Properties' to appear. Select 'Print Settings' from the dialogue window. Select the loaded paper type. Select 'Advanced' as the mode setting. Select 'Print Quality.' In the pull-down box, select 'Color Management,' then select 'Off (No Color Adjustment).' Make sure you turn off the printer's color management, otherwise cross management will occur.
Click 'Print' to save the settings and start printing.
