How to Use a Canon MP150 Printer

Make sure that your computer is equipped to use this Canon PIXMA MP150. Check the requirements for either PC or Mac to see if you meet those. If you have a computer from the past three or four years, you should be in good shape, but you need to make sure you have the correct version of Windows or Mac OS, enough hard drive space on your computer for the driver installation and enough RAM before proceeding.
Hook up the printer. The power cable runs from the MP150 to the wall and the USB cable runs from the printer to the computer. The power cable lets you turn it on and the USB cable sends printing information from the computer to the MP150. Install the ink cartridges too. Unlike some other models of Canon printers, these use one black cartridge and one color cartridges, numbered PG-40 or PG-50 for black (PG-50 is a larger capacity cartridge) and CL-41 or CL-51 for color, with CL-51 being the larger cartridge. They are a snap to put in, literally.
Get the computer to talk to the MP150. That involves installing the driver, either by putting the CD that comes with the printer into your computer's CD/DVD drive or downloading it from Canon's website if you can't find the CD. Installation should be fairly quick, as it installs both the printer driver and the scanner driver. After that you are ready to go.
To print anything, from documents to photos, all paper is loaded in a tray in the bottom front of the MP150. If you are printing photos, use glossy paper. If you are printing anything from your computer, select 'Print' from whatever program you are using. Be advised that selecting higher print quality will slow down the print speed and it won't reach the advertised page-per-minute speed. Don't overload the printer with paper. About 25 sheets at a time should do it.
Lay whatever you want to scan on the glass and select 'scan.' The thing to remember with scanning is DPI, or dots-per-inch. The higher the DPI, the better the quality, but the larger the resulting file size on your computer, which can a long time to edit in the editing program. It can reach as high as 4800 DPI. For my own purposes, I never scan higher than 600 DPI. Generally, the only places that use higher than that are professional photographers and architects. If you are neither of those, don't worry about it.
To print from your camera, use the camera's USB cable (not the one that comes with the printer) and plug it into both the camera and the little USB port on the bottom left of the front of the printer. Follow the instructions on the camera's screen for printing, and again, make sure that you have glossy photo paper in there.
