How to Remove a Canon Printer Cartridge (6 Steps)

Press the power button to turn on the printer.
Open the paper output tray. On some models, you may need to press the 'Open' button located on the front of the printer to open the tray.
Lift open the top of the printer. On some models, there is a propping bar to hold the top of the printer open while you access the ink tanks. Once the printer is open, the print head should shift to the center of the printer so you can access the ink tanks.
Determine which ink tank you want to remove. A flashing ink tank on newer printers indicates that the ink is depleted. On some older models, check the ink status on your display screen.
Push in on the plastic tab on the front of the ink tank you wish to remove.
Pull up on the ink tank to remove it.
